The Yobe State House of Assembly has been in existence along with other state houses of Assembly of the Federation since inception in 1992.
The third republic legislators are the first set of law makers for the 20 month term that lasted under the military president General Ibrahim Babangida. However with demolition of the democratic structure in the late 1993 by the Abatcha administration terminated the third Republic, thereby designating the state Assembly as Legislative Unit under the Military Administrator’s office. The unit saddled with the responsibility of running legislative duties, set in motion the administrative machinery for the establishment of the future legislature which gave to the present assembly in accordance with the policy guidelines of the then federal government.
Consequently, as part of the implementation of the then Federal Government’s transition programme which ushered in the fourth Republic, the legislative unit regains its full pledge status as the State House of Assembly. The promulgation of the State Government (Basic Constitutional and Transitional Provision) Decree 3 of 1999 as well as 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, provided for the establishment of the State Assembly nationwide. The House has 24 Honourable Members with provision of 1999 Constitution and had accommodated 4 sets of Assembly.
